Here is the details for the 2026 Trip:
Dates: July 31 - August 2, 2026
Location: Bear Lake Campground, Yampa CO
Directions:
- From I-70: Take exit 205 (Silverthorne/CO 9) north through Kremmling to CO 134 west. Take 134 west 27 miles to CO 131. Turn right (north) on 131 for about 10 miles to Yampa. Turn left before the Sinclair station and go through town, stay left of Montgomery’s General Store to get on county road 7. Bear Lake campground is about 15 miles up the valley a bit past Yamcolo Reservoir on the left. The last 9 miles or so are gravel.
Bear Lake Campground is a first-come, first-served campground that can handle trailers up to 30 ft. There are NO hook-ups for water, sewer or electricity. A tent pad, fire ring and picnic table are available at each site and there are several double sites that can handle two trailers. There are vault toilets and potable water spigots.
Cost is $20/night for single site ($10 with a National Parks senior pass). Quiet hours are 10p-7a so no generators after 10p. Elevation is about 9000 ft at camp.

Activities: Lots of opportunity for fishing, kayaking, hiking and wildflower viewing right from camp.
- Fishing: There are 3 reservoirs in the immediate area for good to excellent trout fishing. Stagecoach Reservoir is about 30-minute drive and has big trout and is one of the top northern pike fisheries in the state. Colorado River is about a 40-minute drive and can be very good for rainbows, browns and cutbows.
- Hiking: There are numerous trails in the area for as much hiking as you can handle. Should be good for wildflower viewing.
What to bring:
- Food (We’ll coordinate depending on how many are coming). Bring plenty of water.
- Bug spray is essential, sunscreen recommended.
- All-weather clothing as temps may range from upper 30s to 90 degrees. Rain gear and an extra pair of shoes are a good idea.
- Shelter for sleeping, sleeping bag, etc.
- Fishing gear, watercraft (Yamcolo Reservoir permits gas powered boats and has a boat ramp).
- Firewood
Services in Yampa include gas/diesel, general store (can get fishing licenses there), a couple restaurants and a TraveLodge hotel (970-638-1000).
NOTE: No cell service at camp – drive into Yampa for spotty coverage, depending on your carrier
